Kosher Vegan Backpacking Meals? My 2022 Moosejaw Entry | Sharing on WanderBound

Finding the right food for the trail isn’t always easy—especially if you’re looking for vegan backpacking meals that are also kosher. Most pre-packaged backpacking meals are heavy on meat or dairy, and even many vegan options don’t always deliver the calories and protein you need for long hikes.

That’s why I created and refined my vegan and kosher meals—lightweight, delicious, and incredibly simple: just add boiling water.

A Trail Meal That Started as a Contest Idea

Back in 2022, outdoor retailer Moosejaw ran a contest for new outdoor product ideas. I knew this recipe was too good to keep to myself, so I scrambled to submit it.

In true backpacker fashion, there was a little chaos: during a filming hike, I forgot to actually pack the meal! I ended up stitching together my daytime pitch with the nighttime meal prep, showing exactly what I would’ve eaten on the trail.

The result? A simple, hearty vegan camp meal designed for hikers, backpackers, and anyone who wants to eat well outdoors.

Whether you’re planning a multi-day hike, prepping for a long paddling trip, or just looking for a simple camping food hack, this meal keeps things stress-free.
