Filmed several years ago at the historic Fort Pickens in Florida, this short promo was part of an early concept for a speech called Builders We All. While it’s a little cringeworthy to watch now, years later, the message still resonates:
Our words have power. They can build. Or they can break.
Using the bricks of the old fort as a metaphor, Ari Gunzburg reflects on how each word, each interaction, each choice we make contributes to something greater, whether that’s a relationship, a team, a culture, or a legacy. Just like each brick supports the structure, every word supports (or weakens) what we’re building.
Each time we speak to someone, or about someone, we have the ability to build them up with what we say and how we say it - or to break them down. This is kind of a dichotomy between being a potential bully and being someone who is a cheerleader for those they know.
Even though this isn’t one of Ari’s currently available speeches (ask him about it if you're interested), it represents a meaningful step on the journey, both personally and professionally. The growth since then is clear. Is the foundation in place? Still solid.
Key Idea:
We are all builders—people, ideas, systems, and communities. What are you building with your words today?
